Psychotherapeutic Counselling

Cathy offers individual therapy to adults. Her approach uses different models and therapeutic techniques, with an underlying base of psychodynamic principles (see About page). Through the relationship that develops between counsellor and client, you can reflect on your current circumstances and explore the underlying aspects and life experiences in order to create a positive change.

Counselling can be brief, medium or longer term, depending on the nature of the problem and the hopes and expectations. Generally, if the presenting problem is short term, then the counselling work is also short term. This can be discussed at the start.

Research has shown that the quality of the therapeutic relationship, rather than the type of approach, is the essential element in getting a successful outcome. With this in mind it is useful to ‘shop around’ for a counsellor that you feel can build a successful relationship with you.

 Testimonial from a Supervisee:

"Cathy has been my supervisor for over 4 years. During this time Cathy has been a tremendous support when faced with challenging clients or difficulties that have arisen with vulnerable adults and children. I have trust in Cathy and this enables me the ability to explore areas of work with the knowledge I will be held safely as we work together in exploring the next steps in the therapy."

"I would not hesitate in recommending Cathy as a supervisor for her wealth of knowledge and expertise. She has played a big part in my success as a counsellor."
